Fibrenamics received, on February 12, the diploma for the “Scientific Research in Military Sciences 2025” Award, granted by the Military University Institute (IUM), at a ceremony held as part of the IUM’s 10th anniversary celebrations and presided over by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, General José Nunes da Fonseca.

Created in 2018, this award recognises work that contributes to advancing knowledge in Military Sciences and to the development of capabilities within the Armed Forces. In the 2025 edition, 21 scientific papers were submitted, with distinctions awarded across four core areas.

Fibrenamics was recognised in the Military Techniques and Technologies category for the paper “Durable and breathable ZnO/graphene-coated fabrics for enhanced BQR protection”. Fibrenamics was represented at the award ceremony by Project Manager Joana Antunes, who received the diploma on behalf of the team.

Published in 2025 in the Journal of Materials Chemistry B (Royal Society of Chemistry), the paper is the result of collaborative research between Fibrenamics, the Portuguese Army, the University of Minho, Sciencentris, Latino Group and Tintex Textiles. The work focuses on the development of advanced, durable and breathable textile materials with enhanced performance for protection against Biological, Chemical and Radiological (BQR) risks, paving the way for solutions with potential applications in both military and civilian contexts.

With this recognition, Fibrenamics strengthens its ties with the Armed Forces and reaffirms its commitment to developing innovative solutions with real-world application, addressing protection and security challenges.
