New “Proof of Value” episodes reveal solutions transforming construction and mobility

Fibrenamics has launched two new episodes of the Proof of Value – Projects with Fibre, Innovation with Impact series, dedicated to the BCRs – Braided Composite Rebar and LH4Auto projects. Focusing respectively on construction and mobility, these new episodes show how applied research can address concrete industry challenges through innovative solutions with real impact potential.

In episode 3, Fernando Leite, Project Manager of Fibrenamics’ Composites Unit, presents the BCRs – Braided Composite Rebar project, which offers an alternative to steel in the construction sector through the development of braided composite rebars.

At a time when the construction industry is seeking more sustainable, durable and efficient solutions, BCRs stand out for being lighter, corrosion-resistant and associated with a lower carbon footprint. In addition to improving the performance and longevity of structures, this solution also represents an opportunity to reduce the environmental impact associated with materials traditionally used in the sector.

The project also points to a new generation of smart BCRs, designed to support more preventive, safer and more efficient maintenance, contributing to the evolution of buildings and infrastructure towards the concept of Smart Buildings and Smart Cities.

In episode 4, Luísa Durão introduces LH4Auto, a project that is transforming vehicle interiors through the development of lighter, smarter and multifunctional components, with lighting and heating integrated directly into surfaces.

Developed by Fibrenamics and the University of Minho, in partnership with Simoldes Plásticos and PSA MG, the project responds to the challenges of an automotive industry increasingly focused on comfort, efficiency and sustainability. At the same time, it highlights the potential of these solutions to generate applications beyond mobility, paving the way for the development of smart surfaces with cross-sector applications.

With these two new episodes, Fibrenamics reinforces its commitment to advancing applied science and promoting projects that clearly demonstrate how innovation can respond to present-day challenges and help build the future.
