Raul Fangueiro among the most cited scientists in the world in 2025
The President and Scientific Coordinator of Fibrenamics, Professor Raul Fangueiro, has once again been recognized among the world’s most cited scientists, according to the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025 ranking, compiled by Stanford University (USA) and the Elsevier publishing group.
This international recognition confirms not only the relevance and consistency of his research in the field of fibrous and composite materials, but also the growing visibility of science produced in Portugal. This year, the University of Minho stands out with 69 researchers on the list, placing the institution at the forefront of national scientific output.
More than just a number, this achievement reflects the influence and global visibility of the research being carried out, in line with the trajectory of Professor Fangueiro, who was recently appointed to Portugal’s National Council for Science, Technology, and Innovation (CNCTI). Throughout his career, he has combined outstanding scientific output with leadership in impactful projects and collaborations, including those developed with MIT and UMass Lowell, as well as the creation of innovative solutions for strategic sectors such as healthcare, defense, construction, and sustainability.
“It is very gratifying to see that our work has become a reference at the international level and inspires new researchers. This recognition reinforces the importance of continuing to explore the potential of fibers and composites as a response to increasingly demanding global challenges,” says Raul Fangueiro.

This recognition also strengthens Fibrenamics’ strategy, which is based on internationalization and knowledge transfer to society. The inclusion of its President among the world’s most cited scientists enhances the institution’s credibility and capacity to generate disruptive, sustainable, and high-value solutions in collaboration with national and international partners.
Since its first edition in 2019, the World’s Top 2% Scientists list has become a global benchmark for scientific impact, highlighting researchers whose work decisively drives the advancement of knowledge and innovation.
