In a context of openness to dialogue between research and artistic creation, Fibrenamics joined the project “Tecer a Luz”, one of the winning proposals of the 2025 edition of Bairro C’s Open Call, “Carbon Zero, Infinite Cities.”

Developed by Maria Alves, the project stems from an ongoing interest in the relationship between light, territory and collective memory, focusing on Rua da Caldeiroa, in Guimarães, an area marked by recent transformations and a strong historical and symbolic significance.

Conceived through a collaborative approach, “Tecer a Luz” proposes close engagement with the local community through workshops, sensory mapping and ecological practices, exploring light as a living and sensitive material while inviting different ways of reading the territory.

Fibrenamics’ participation in this context took shape through the workshop held at the University of Minho, which made it possible to bring together perspectives from art, materials and applied research. The session helped broaden the reflection on functional textiles and their relationship with light, creating a point of contact between different fields of knowledge and showing how research can also be approached through more sensory and experimental languages.

More than a one-off moment of exchange, this connection highlighted the potential for dialogue between artistic practice and the research lines developed by Fibrenamics. By bringing together science, the textile industry and contemporary creation, the meeting opened space for new interpretations of materials and of the ways in which technical and scientific knowledge can be made more visible, accessible and meaningful.

This first contact also leaves open possibilities for future collaboration, particularly in the development of projects that may explore, through an artistic lens, themes, processes and materials connected to the world of Fibrenamics. In a territory where industrial memory, urban transformation and innovation intersect, initiatives of this kind reveal the importance of building bridges between disciplines and of thinking about research as a space for connection, experimentation and imagination.
