EasyBath

Development of a modular and customizable shower wheelchair aimed at assisting with mobility and hygiene care for users with cognitive limitations.

In the challenging scenario for individuals with reduced mobility, the difficulties with bathing multiply. In the face of this challenge, innovation in customizable shower wheelchairs is essential to promote autonomy in the home environment and contribute to inclusion, diversity, and representation in society.

The EasyBath project, promoted by Multiorthos and developed in partnership with the Fibrenamics Institute, has four specific objectives to be achieved:

  • Modular solutions and adjustment mechanisms to maximize folding, optimize the chassis structure, and reduce the number of components. This approach aims to improve the chair’s compacting and transport capacity while providing customization to meet the needs of users of different sizes and specific motor skills;
  • Weight reduction and ease of handling to facilitate the manipulation and transportation of the chair while preserving the safety and ergonomic comfort of the user during daily use;
  • Through functionalization processes, innovative materials aim to impart antibacterial, self-cleaning, and corrosion-resistant properties to the materials, complying with strict quality and safety standards;
  • Technological platform for generative design, allowing, through optimized algorithms, design methodologies that establish a relationship between performance and environmental responsibility. This technological platform could provide knowledge not only for shower wheelchairs but also for other assistive mobility devices.

Expected Results:

  • 20% lighter chair: weight reduction to facilitate transport and handling;
  • 10% volume reduction when folded: the chair will be more compact when folded, optimizing storage and transportation space;
  • Customization and adjustability: the chair will be adjustable in at least four areas, including variations in height and angles, adapting to different types of users;
  • Functionalized materials: incorporation of materials with antibacterial, self-cleaning, and corrosion-resistant properties, featuring an ergonomic design and increased wear resistance;
  • Reduction of components: decrease in the total number of components, resulting in a more ergonomic, accessible product aligned with social and environmental responsibility principles.

The EasyBath project represents an innovative and sustainable solution in the field of mobility and care for people with reduced mobility. Through intelligent design, advanced materials, and cutting-edge technologies, it aims to develop a highly customizable shower wheelchair, focusing on accessibility, comfort, and sustainability, promoting a more inclusive and diverse society.

The project is promoted by Multiorthos and supported by NORTE2030-FEDER-00524500, with a total investment of €498,144.00.
